Green is the new black :)

Green vegetables are nature’s multivitamin and are packed with antioxidants and nutrients such as vitamins A, C & K, calcium, potassium and iron, to name a few.

These nutrients are necessary for maintaining many different processes in your body, including reducing levels of bad cholesterol, improving your vision, helping to manage your weight and boosting your immunity.

There are many reasons as to why greens should be a part of your daily diet. They also have a high fibre content, which is essential for colon health.


Want to know some fun ways to eat your greens? I love adding them to smoothies, especially kale and spinach. You can also use them in soups, green juices and salads. My favourite smoothie recipe:

Broccoli contains more vitamin C than an orange and contains as much calcium as a glass of milk; Calcium helps to keep your heart beating regularly and also promotes sleep.



Spinach is high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein and fibre. It is packed with tons of nutrients that are important for skin, hair and bone health. Remember, it was Popeye’s favourite for a reason 😉




One of the most nutritious greens to eat is Okra also know as gumbo. It is rich in fibre and also has a low Glycemic index. Grilled and pickled okra or gumbo preparations are the best ways to lose weight with this healthy green vegetable. Okra is digested slowly thereby making you feel full longer. It also improves blood glucose balance and helps in weight management and regulating metabolism. Best ways to eat Okra is including it sliced in stews and gumbo.


Known to improve fertility levels and also improve heart health. 100 grams of fresh leek stems offer just 61 calories making them one of the best foods for weight loss. This unassuming vegetable is also rich in folic acid, zinc, iron and magnesium. They also act as natural antibiotic and remove toxins from the body.
Zucchini, also known as courgette, looks like a cucumber but is in fact a summer squash. It is a common pizza topping and is popular with vegans.Zucchini is a great source of potassium and B vitamins and is low in calories. Summer squash in general are rich in antioxidants, have anti-inflammatory and blood sugar benefits and support prostate health.
