What’s an “alkaline” food?
There are acidic foods known as acidifying foods and alkalizing foods also known as alkalis. While acidic foods cause demineralisation of the organism with risks of metabolic diseases, alkaline foods will help preserve the organism by maintaining a better “acid-base” balance. The objective to maintain a better health is, therefore, to consume as much alkaline as possible and to avoid acidic foods.
The top alkalizing food :
Green juices : Spirulina is a super alkaline food because of its chlorophyll content. It is easy to incorporate into your green juices. Green juices can be made with nettle, dandelion, cabbage, kale, parsley, spirulina, chlorella etc. They promote a better transport of the cells in the blood and their oxygenation.
Fruits : Grapes, apricots, figs, bananas, avocado, dates, strawberries, raspberries, peaches and apples are some of the most alkaline fruits for your body, enjoy them. First, raisins are the best alkalizing for your body. Including many antioxidants, they will provide you with many minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, but also iron. With a PRAL index of -21, it ranks at the top of the list of the best alkalizing agents.
Green vegetables : Regardless of the green vegetable of your choice, you should know that they are all very good alkalinizers for your body. Whether it is kale, leek, asparagus or endive, they are all beneficial to fight against acids. Filled with many mineral salts, green vegetables will allow you to find an excellent acid-base balance in your body. Be careful, we recommend that you eat these raw or steamed green vegetables in order to preserve their benefits.
The banana : Bananas do not have many acids, they are rich in minerals and are also a great source of vitamins. Very popular with athletes, it is also easy to digest.
The chestnut : With a PRAL index of -8.5, it is important to be interested in chestnuts. In addition to being a good alkalinizer, it is also an excellent source of manganese and copper. If you don’t like chestnuts, you can eat them as flour in a variety of dishes, including pastries.
The potato : If you are fond of starchy foods, know that the only alkaline starchy food is the potato. It will make it possible to replace cereals which are not recommended for your meals. In addition, know that the potato contains many minerals, vitamins (keep the skin!) as well as multiple fibres necessary for the proper functioning of your body.
Mineral waters : As previously seen, water can be consumed with lemon to become a powerful alkalizing agent. However, certain bicarbonate-rich mineral waters are available on the market, making it possible to neutralize acids immediately. Among the best known, we recommend the waters Saint-Yorre and Vichy Célestin.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of the main foods that help your body alkalize better:
- Green beans
- Brazil nut
- Cashew nuts
- Citrus except oranges
- Ripe Tomatoes
- Melons and watermelons

Move and sweat to fight acids :
Studies have shown that stress is the primary cause of high levels of acid in the human body. So bad news, hard work, electromagnetic fields, pollution, etc. all contribute to the increase of acidity in our body. How do we deal with it? Leaving also thanks to perspiration. In fact, sweat is an excellent natural alkalizing agent that will remove 80% of your body’s waste on average. It is therefore recommended that you exercise daily to be able to evacuate acids easily, whether or not you are ready to change your diet. Moving is the watchword, but beware: Remember to be well hydrated. Don’t hesitate to drink plenty of mineral water such as those mentioned above or mint and/or lemon tea infusions to get rid of acids through the kidney system.
Drink some lemon :
As you can see, even though it tastes acidic, lemon is recommended for alkalizing your body. For this reason, we advise you to drink a lemon juice in the morning with lukewarm water for example. This will be very beneficial for your body, and therefore for your health. Choose a fresh lemon juice that you squeeze yourself. We should not forget that it is necessary not to consume food additives, which are often found in lemon juice on supermarket shelves.
Avoid stress :
If poor nutrition can cause acidity, so can stress. We currently live in a society where anxiety is a common feature of our daily lives. However, even if this is not obvious, it would be wise to reduce your stress level to live a better, healthier life by reducing the presence of acids in your body. There are many solutions: In addition to sports, talking to a loved one, changing your mind, taking a break from your busy schedule, etc. Learn to take a few minutes every day to relax and you will find that your stress will be greatly reduced, and your body’s acids will also be reduced.
